5. Heart Center (Anahata Chakra)

Next to the Self, towards the right, is the Heart chakra. It fuses you with willpower and ego to be a ‘top dog’ in the material world.

With the power of Heart chakra, you conjure the willpower toward freedom.

Whether your willpower is invested in pursuits of the greater good or to meet selfish reasons is greatly balanced by your Heart chakra (also known as ego center). 

If your Heart Center is defined 

It’s rare to have a defined heart. If you’re, you are one of those iron-willed persons who can move mountains.

If you throw your heart into something, you draw the courage to see it accomplished without any questions asked.

But, you must be careful about aligning with what truly deserves your time and energy. 

If your Heart Center is undefined

An undefined heart doesn’t mean that you don’t have willpower. It simply means you can’t rely on your willpower to fiercely compete in matters of ego.

If you compare yourself with others and over-compete, you may run out of fuel (willpower) to win the battle.  

6. Sacral Center (Svadhisthana Chakra)

It’s another motor center, like the Heart center, powered by life force energy.

Your Sacral Chakra is the energy powerhouse (gut response) for unleashing you out of your shell toward the sky.

This chakra is also referred to as the ‘sex center’ as the majority of its gates have a sexual undertone.

If you know how to use your sacral energy correctly, you tap into an unstoppable energy that brings about personal fulfillment. 

If your Sacral Center is defined 

With a defined sacral center, you respond to whatever life throws at you.

You sustain any endeavor with massive commitment until the experience is complete.

Your gut response becomes the moral compass that pulls you to or from someone or something.

Often, people with defined sacral chakra spend their lives as unappreciated workhorses fulfilling others’ projects. But they take it as a calling.

Even you may find them feel obliged to take on the tasks of others as their own. Such people also have the potential for a sustained and satisfying sex life.

You will soon realize that your best inputs tend to come in spurts or when you’re in a team.

You laugh their laughs and cry their tears. That’s the reason you must always remain watchful of emotions you’re getting subjected to, whether toxic or healthy. Otherwise, you are calm, cool, and collected as a lone wolf. 

8. Awareness Center (Spleen Chakra)

Spleen is another major awareness center that provides the ability to survive and a feel-good factor about life.

It’s your inner radar to help you scan the moments and to help you respond spontaneously to situations as per your instinct, intuition, and taste.

Also, the spleen center blinks red lights on sensing hazardous people or situations.

If your Spleen is defined

You are highly intuitive and respond to life on the spur of the moment.

9. Root Center (Muladhara Chakra)

That square center sitting at the bottom of your life chart is your adrenaline and drive to act, known as the Root center.

You feel joy, rooted, and grounded in life because of this energy center.

As a center of raw energy, it provides the push to get things done in response to the pressure by the Crown chakra to rationalize life.

Anatomically, it represents the adrenal gland, which drives madness and stress in our lives. 

If your Root Center is defined

You compose an intense drive within and draw people into your aura to perform actions without losing balance. This volcano of energy, however, should be controlled with calmness. How to Read Your Human Design Chart?

Let me help you learn how to read your Human Design Chart by understanding the following concepts. 

Channels and Gates

Gates represent a connected network of channels, with each holding a unique energy or behavioral trait.

All red ones are unconscious gates, and they also represent the design. The black ones represent your conscious or min/personality.

A gate that represents both your personality and design is colored in red and black lines.

Then there are defined gates that combine the characteristics of two gates, giving birth to the third energy.

It is also defined as the center of both ends. If you don’t have any defined channel connecting to another channel, you have an undefined center. 

Design and Personality

If you look carefully at the chart, you will see a column of numbers displayed on each side of the bodygraph named design and Personality.

They represent the position of the planets, sun, moon, earth, and south & north nodes of the moon. 

The left column (design) represents our unconscious definition, while the right column (personality) defines our conscious self.

While in astrology, we consider only the natal chart, Human design considers two elements:

• Your birth date and time for conscious definition
• 88 days before your birth for unconscious definition

Your personality is what you are consciously aware of. It is what you think you are. Meanwhile, your design is your unconscious definition.

It is something you start to learn about yourself when people point it out to you. Some of your unconscious definitions are passed down to you genetically.

Although you have no control over what you receive from your ancestors, you can certainly work to redesign it.

The human design system identifies nine centers in the bodygraph spreading through our body.

Each of these centers is governed by some specific energies. Together, they influence various functions of our body.

The colored portion of the energy center in the chart describes Who We Are. 

Meanwhile, if the center is undefined, there is no consistency in possessing its energies.

The open centers are where we receive our deepest conditioning. It could be a source of our resistance or suffering.

However, once you start to respect your design mechanism, the open centers become a source of wisdom and knowledge.

Each of these centers is governed by some specific energies which affect the functions of our body.

Head Center

Head center rules attributes like inspiration, mental pressure, and critical thinking. An undefined head center can make you think of unnecessary things and end up with a head full of questions. 

Ajna Center

Your Anja center defines how you analyze a situation and process information. An undefined Ajna center could signify that you have little control over your thought processing and analysis.

Throat Center

With this defined center, you thrive in communication and manifestation. If it’s undefined, that means you have no consistency in taking action to achieve your goals but have flexible communication skills.

G CENTER

The G center is located in the middle of your body. It defines your unique identity and persuades you to take a certain direction in life. An undefined G Center is often associated with a weak identity.

Heart center

The heart center, aka the ego center, controls your self-esteem, willpower, and ego. It helps you survive in a materialistic world. An undefined heart center indicates you have low self-esteem and you often undermine yourself.

Sacral Center

A defined sacral center powers your sexuality, vitality, and will to persist. If your sacral center is undefined, it could indicate an inconsistency in vitality.

That means you don’t know when you will stop and relax. You continue to overdo things, including working, eating, and other aspects of your life. 

Root Center

The root center controls your drive and physical pressure. If your root center is undefined, you often do things as fast as you can when under pressure.

Spleen Center

Spleen revolves around your center of instinct, intuition, and survival. An undefined sleep center shows you are easily vulnerable to trauma and fear.

Solar Plexus Center

The solar plexus center rules your emotions and mental state. If it’s undefined, it means you are likely to feel intense emotions, even in small matters.

Components of a Mandala

The inner wheel: It is represented by 12 zodiac signs. Unlike traditional astrology, the interpretation of these signs is different. 

The outer wheel: It includes 64 hexagrams of I’Ching, with each hexagram indicating some form of energy. These energies are related to your genetic code and 64 codons of your DNA.

Generators

Generators are born to build. They love to solve problems or take on a challenge. There is a consistent flow of energy in their sacral chakra. It makes them prone to overwork and risk burnout. Therefore, minding good health is necessary for Generators. 

Generators must save their sacral energy from wasting on commitments beyond their capability. Your ideal strategy is to wait before saying Yes to anything. 

Strategy: To wait to respond

Manifestors

Manifestors are lone wolves, always on a mission to make a big impact and fix things but without all that interference. You love to plan things on your own without seeking advice from others. 

Your secret weapon is the “informing before acting” strategy. That’s how you roll, managing people like a boss. By sharing your plans upfront, you avoid those pesky last-minute hurdles and keep the flow going.

Strategy: To Inform others before taking actions

Manifesting Generators

Manifesting Generators have the characteristics of a Generator and a Manifester. You’re all about what brings you joy and satisfaction.

With your sacral life force, you have got that hardworking Generator spirit, but your Manifestor can speak things into reality. 

You have got this amazing knack for knowing what’s working in your favor. So you don’t end up with too much on your plate. 

Strategy: To Respond, Then Inform

Projectors

If finding your inner desire and skills is a struggle, you might be a Projector. But that doesn’t make you any less than Generators and Manifestors.

In fact, Projectors are highly sought-after skilled individuals and leaders, challenged a bit by their lack of consistency.

As a Projector, waiting for recognition is your key to success. Once you allow the pieces to fall, you will shine as a natural guide, manager, and director.

Reflectors 

Reflectors are rare gems in the human design system. They are oversensitive and feel vulnerable to negative energies. A reflector’s aura picks up energies around it and reflects into the world, hence the name.

The human design system has eight inner authority that dictates a person’s decision-making skills.

Solar plexus- emotional

People with emotional authority are masters of their emotions. You are pretty adaptable to your feelings. You can easily accept your feelings and release them at ease, which most people struggle with.

Sacral

You are likely to have a sacral inner authority if you are among the generators or manifesting generators. With abundant energies in your sacral, you can easily realize what works for you. This gives you an upper hand in your career, relationship, and other aspects of life. 

Splenic

Have you ever had a feeling that something is not right? You may have a splenic inner authority. It is an instinctual authority that keeps you away from emotional harm. You live in the present and are well aware of everything happening.

Ego-Manifested

Ego-manifested individuals make decisions from their hearts, taking their sweet time before speaking up.

However, this inner authority holds them back from expressing emotions and reaching goals.

Your profile line numbers are written as 1/3, 2/5, 2/3, and so on. The first number represents your conscious personality, and the second number influences your unconscious design.

Line 1: Investigator

It indicates that you are very creative and grounded. You never make a decision only after you gather enough evidence about it.

The core strategy of Manifesting Generators is “To respond and Then inform.” 

You have a defined sacral center that gives you the power to listen to your inner voice (Response). It is a combination of your wisdom and innate desire that differs from what your mind tells you. 

On the surface, it sounds like MGs have it all together. Unfortunately, it’s not. You often struggle to listen to your sacral response. This is because your conscious tells you to evaluate every aspect logically before reaching a decision (informing). 

What would you do if you were invited to a party you don’t want to attend because you have an important meeting the next day? You will respond with a NO, right?

However, as a Manifesting Generator, you won’t stop there. You are likely to calculate the response with every possible outcome.

E.g., “What if people will not invite me the next time they have a party?”

So you end up saying ‘Yes’ reluctantly and regret the decision afterward. This happens because of your inability to listen to your true response over your conscious mind.

MGs have the same sensitive and receptive aura as Generators. You easily absorb the projections of others and have a predisposition toward Generators. That’s why you get subconsciously conditioned by others. 

Another part of your aura comes from Manifestors, i.e., a closed and repulsive. The nature of this aura is to initiate actions without concerning anyone else. However, this is not you as your true nature. 

The truth is, even if you easily absorb others’ projections, your discomfort with negative feedback still remains. You may try your best to hide your true feelings until, one day, the lava inside you explodes.

Slowly, they feel pilled up with stress and dissatisfaction until one day they reach the tipping point when the energy fizzles out with frustration.

At the same time, a Manifesting Generator will likely encounter anger due to its inherent characteristic to win every race in life.

We often stray too far from our roots, but you have to remember that we cannot grow branches without roots. You don’t have to cling to the past, but you also can’t forget your legacy.

How to Use Runes

1. For Divination

Runes have been used in prophetic and divination practices for ages. In the 1st century, Germanic people would carve strips of wood and mark them with runic symbols before they prayed to their gods and chose the strips in a specific order that would tell them how the future would unfold.

In this way, although it’s a different practice, we can connect them to Tarot, a form of cartomancy from the 15th century.

Rune sets often come as a deck of cards that can be used similarly. If you scroll down, you will see how you can interpret the runes in a more structured manner through runic spreads.

Runes can also be used in scrying, a divination practice that usually uses a black mirror or another dark or reflective surface that, once you stare at it long enough, will formulate messages or visions from its reflection.

You don’t need a crystal ball, a chalice of water or an obsidian mirror, though.

You can shuffle and choose runes that, once laid out and meditated upon, will bring forth a flashback from the past or a premonition of the future.

Pay attention to which runes have been drawn and what their relationship is. What do they have in common? What feeling do they invoke in you? 

Whichever divination practice you use, make sure to write it all down. It will help you notice future patterns much faster and work out the connected meaning of the visions you may receive. 

2. In Spellwork

It’s easy to incorporate runes into your daily practice. With spellwork, we often use candles, crystals, paper, ritual knives, and offerings.

All you have to do is write down the runes on any of these items valuable to your spell.

Preferably, an item that corresponds with the spell’s desired outcome. You may need some previous knowledge of the meaning of crystals or the colors of candles, but a quick Google search will do the trick.

I often carve the runes with my athame into candles to channel their energy, but there are no limits or strict rules on how you implement them in your spellwork.

A simple sharpie or pencil can get the job done. The easiest thing to do is write the rune down on a piece of paper, and either fold the paper around a crystal or throw it all together into your chalice, cauldron, or other bowl of choice. 

This is how I created the money bowl that I charge on the first of every month with an incantation.

Fehu, Dagaz, Gebo, various coins, crystals, and cinnamon sticks mixed up in a vessel of manifestation.

It’s not rocket science, people!

Even if you don’t remember the meaning of each rune, trust your gut instinct. It will let you choose the right rune for you if you let it.

You can also carve the symbol into a fruit or other edible offering to a deity and then consume it in order to activate and use its ancient life force. Or, of course, just wear it as an amulet or talisman.

3. As Amulets and Talismans 

Before we continue, do we know what the difference between an amulet and a talisman is?

Okay, so while amulets protect the wearer from evil spirits and negative energy, talismans bring more power to the wearer, usually good health, luck, love, or prosperity.

It is up to you what function you want to assign to the rune.

You can often find runes as talismans and amulets in random jewelry shops, stands, or even at fairs.

If the seller knows anything about runes, they might try to convince you to buy a Fehu talisman to attract riches, an Algiz amulet for protection or a Raidho item to manifest your dream vacation.

You will probably spot these runes engraved on pendants, bracelets, or rings, but that doesn’t always have to be the case.

Any item that is on you can serve as an amulet, be it your phone case, your t-shirt tag, or your socks. I’m not joking.

It may be unconventional, but it will be just as effective, as long as it’s close to your body, and you allow it to enter your aura and become the shield that it is meant to be.

The same goes for talismans, you don’t have to buy certain trinkets to attract what you desire.

Use any rune, or a combination of runes, to turn any object into a talisman that will channel and fuel your intentions to fruition.

You don’t have to carry talismans with you, so any item that you have a connection with can carry the burden or the blessing you are inviting into your life.

How To Read Runes: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Set the Ambiance

Rune readings should start with a cleansed set of runes, in a dimly lit, quiet room. It is important that you aren’t distracted by people or noises around you. Make sure to cleanse your space with sage, salt, or other smudging variants.

Step 2: Choose Your Runes

The rune set you select for your reading doesn’t really matter. It can be a set of carved stones, wooden tiles, or even a card deck.

You can easily make one on your own by printing out images of the symbols or even drawing them. If you still can’t remember the meanings of the runes, write keywords under the symbols to refresh your memory. 

Step 3: Stay Mindful

With your runes in front of you, try to enter a relaxed, meditative state. Shift your awareness to your intention or the question you have for the runes, while slowly shuffling your cards, tiles, or stones (preferably in a little pouch).

Step 4: Select a Rune Spread

Rune spreads or layouts give structure to your readings, helping you see the bigger picture through the placement of each rune. 

• Three-Rune Spread: The most common layout, where you spread out the runes horizontally or vertically.
  • The first rune you draw (usually on top or on your left) represents the past.
  • The second rune (in the middle) represents the present.
  • The third rune (on the very bottom or on your right) represents the future. 

• The Runic Cross: This popular spread is laid out in the shape of a cross.
  • The first rune (left side of the cross) represents the past.
  • The second rune (under the fifth) stands for the present.
  • The third rune (right side of the cross) reveals how you think the future will play out.
  • The fourth rune (bottom of the cross) tells you background information that you may not have known about yourself or the situation.
  • The fifth rune (center of the cross) denotes possible problems or obstacles.
  • The sixth rune (top of the cross) reveals the eventual outcome of the situation.

• Custom Spreads: Once you get comfortable with reading runes, you can create your own spreads based on a personal situation that you need guidance with. And, since runic spreads aren’t that common, you can use tarot spreads. Use runes instead of cards, or use a combination of both for more clarity.

How To Interpret A Three-Rune Spread

If I envision my reading to be about my career and/or money, and my three-rune spread reveals Fehu, Thurisaz, and Berkano, my interpretation would go something like this:

• First Rune: I come from a place of financial security, maybe through generational wealth, or my own income is enough to sustain me. But, in the present, that isn’t enough. I’m either tired of it, or I need something or someone else to bring me happiness because I’ve become too obsessed with grinding and making money. 

• Second Rune: Thurisaz tells me that it’s time for a shift, for a disruption in the balance of things that has already started. I could quit, get fired, or even have someone else enter my life and offer me a chance at something new. 

• Third Rune: The future holds Berkano, a rune that shows the birth of something new once the old has vanished. In my situation, this tells me that even if I don’t get the stability I’ve had so far, I will go out of my comfort zone and accomplish things I never thought possible. 

• Extra Rune: If it still isn’t clear to you, you can always choose another rune for extra clarification on the topic. If Ehwaz appears next, I would take that as another person who will help me succeed. Here, it is up to me to find out who that collaborative person in my life is, or whether that person is just another aspect of me – my shadow self.

It’s important to know that this form of divination isn’t fixed. It shows you the outcome of a situation or perspective if the circumstances stay the same.

However, we have been given free will, so when we act upon something, or let someone else change the course of our path, the outcome is open to change.

Some like to visualize white light activating their powers, while others bury them underground overnight, run them through water, or expose them to the full moon (if you don’t hate waiting 28 days for a single cleanse). 

The most common way to do it, though, is probably by passing them through your favorite incense.
